For that matter, having seen Van Cliburn, Fats Domino, Ramsey Lewis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elton John, Ray Charles and Allen Toussaint he may have been the best pianist from the 20th century. “Flake”? Well, I guess that losing your entire immediate family at a young age, his bouts with what appears to be a bipolar disorder and attempts to soothe the pain with drugs and alcohol took their toll.
