TheLanguageoftheBlues_COVER(JERSEY CITY, NJ) — At 2 PM on Saturday July 13, Ward E Councilwoman Candice Osborne will present Jersey City author and musician Debra Devi a Proclamation from the City of Jersey City in recognition of her award-winning book, The Language of the Blues: From Alcorub to Zuzu (foreword by Dr. John), and her contribution to blues history.

The Proclamation will be presented at the 1-year anniversary party for Tachair Bookshoppe —the popular community-minded bookstore owned by mother/daughter team Carol and Aleta Valleau, who petitioned the city for the proclamation on Devi’s behalf.

At the Tachair Anniversary Party, Devi will read from The Language of the Blues and perform a set of semi-acoustic music.

The Language of the Blues includes quotes by Bonnie Raitt and Joe Bonamassa, and won the ASCAP Deems Taylor Award for Outstanding Book on Popular Music. Debra Devi writes about the blues for the Huffington Post and American Blues Scene Magazine. She is also the lead singer/guitarist for the Jersey City-based rock band Devi and a Fender Girl Rock Nation artist.

Tachair Bookshoppe, located at 260 Newark Ave., offers both used and new books, as well as hot coffee and refreshments, and also serves as an art gallery and live acoustic music venue.
