Two singles have recently been released from distinct corners of the music world—Jackson & The Janks with their rollicking rhythm & blues, and Anne Harris offering a luminous, introspective ballad.

Brooklyn-via-NYC outfit Jackson & The Janks unveil “The Kick,” the first single from their upcoming album Write It Down (out June 27 via Jalopy Records). It’s a driving fusion of rock & roll, rhythm & blues, and what they’ve dubbed “garage gospel.” Frontman Jackson Lynch is joined by an all-star crew: Sam Doores (The Deslondes) on drums and keys, Matt Bell (Esther Rose) on steel guitar, and Craig Flory on bass sax. Fresh from a two-night stand at Skinny Dennis in Nashville and a SXSW showcase, the band sounds like they’re just getting warmed up.

Chicago-based violinist and singer-songwriter Anne Harris delivers a moving new single/video, “Time Has Made a Change,” ahead of her upcoming album I Feel It Once Again (out May 9 via Rugged Road Records). Produced by Colin Linden (Bob Dylan, John Prine, Rhiannon Giddens), the song is a poignant reflection on aging and resilience, carried by Harris’ voice with the quiet strength of a modern spiritual.
