(ChicagoBlues.com) – The Chicago blues institution Kingston Mines was awarded the 2014 Keeping The Blues Alive Award for Blues Club. The KBA awards are presented by The Blues Foundation to individuals and organizations for having made significant contributions to the blues.
For over 40 years Kingston Mines has been a keeper of the blues flame in Chicago. Opened by Doc Pellegrino in 1968, the club has always been a leading venue to experience the best blues that Chicago has to offer. Many blues legends have performed there including B.B. King, Carl Weathersby, Magic Slim, and Koko Taylor.
Currently located on N. Halsted St., Kingston Mines continues to present first tier blues performances nightly, on two alternating stages. On any given evening audiences in this always packed venue are treated to the likes of Mike Wheeler, Ronnie Hicks, Joanna Connor, Linsey Alexander, Billy Branch & The Sons of Blues, Carl Weathersby, and The Chicago Blues All Stars. Doc’s Rib Joint serves up some awesome New Orleans style favorites, and there is blues music into the early morning hours every night.
