The California native was a Delta Groove artist, and had a longstanding career in the blues, playing harmonica from early in his teens for bands and fronting his own longstanding outfit, the Lynwood Slim Band.

Lynwood Slim’s Facebook Page reported the following, and subsequently reported in a following post that he had passed away Monday at 7:00 AM.

Lynwood Slim remains in critical condition as a result of a stroke he suffered on 7/17/14. His doctors have advised that there is little hope for a recovery that would afford him a quality life and therefore the family is respecting his wishes to discontinue aggressive medical treatment. Please pray for Richard and his family. This page will be updated again when appropriate.

He released a number of solo albums and toured internationally, bringing his hard earned harp prowess all over the world before settling back in his hometown of Los Angeles and continuing to ensure and enrich the Southern California blues scene. His latest effort was a collaboration that brought him to Sao Paolo, Brazil, where he recorded a critically received album, Brazillian Kicks.

“Lynwood Slim has landed himself international acclaim as a performer and producer,” his website biography proudly reads. “He has endeared himself to audiences around the world as one of the finest blues vocalists of his generation… His mastery of the harmonica is second to none. His subtleties of tone and phrasing have made Lynwood Slim one of the distinctive voices in contemporary blues.”
