The patch is earned by boy scouts maintaining the trail markers and learning about the deep musical culture of the state.

The Boy Scouts of American, Chickasaw Council, and the Mississippi Blues Trail Commission have partnered to create an exciting opportunity for cub scouts and boy scouts to learn about Mississippi musicians and history. Scouts in Mississippi can visit the Blues Trail markers throughout the state and “do a good turn” by making sure the markers are in good shape and clear of debris. They can then earn a one-of-a-kind patch, pictured below along with an excerpt from the application of the first scout to earn this honor!

“We could not be more pleased with the partnership with the Boy Scouts of America, Chickasaw Council,” said Malcolm White, Chairman of the Mississippi Blues Commission. “We know that the Scouts in Mississippi will be great stewards of this important cultural heritage program we call the Mississippi Blues Trail. Our hope is that the Scouts will not only learn a great deal about Mississippi’s blues history and the Mississippi story at large, but also meet some of our tourists along the way, and in turn become great cultural ambassadors for our state.”
