New Orleans, mark your calendars: On Monday, July 21, acclaimed bassist, producer, and songwriter Roland Guerin steps in for George Porter Jr. at his longstanding Maple Leaf Bar residency. Fresh off a stretch in Switzerland and back in town to produce, Guerin is bringing the low end home.

Known for his genre-blurring EP PROG:FUNK (Louisiana Red Hot Records), Guerin channels the pulse of New Orleans through years onstage with legends—serving as music director for Dr. John and handling bass for Allen Toussaint. With a resume that reads like a Crescent City hall of fame, Guerin continues to push boundaries: “28 Days,” from PROG:FUNK, took home Burl Audio’s Song of the Year, and the EP landed on Tidal’s 50 Most Out There Jazz Releases and Apple Music’s New in Rock in 2024.

Now he’s putting the finishing touches on a new full-length album, a project that started in New Orleans, evolved in Canada this summer, and will wrap in Switzerland. Among the featured guests is none other than Corey Henry, the trombone powerhouse and fellow NOLA torchbearer who also turned heads at Jazz Ascona alongside Guerin.

Fans can also catch Henry at his ongoing Thursday night residency at Vaughan’s Lounge, or dig into his latest record, Corey Henry and the Treme Funktet Live at Vaughan’s (Louisiana Red Hot Records), a live-wire transmission straight out of Treme.

But first: Monday night. Guerin. The Maple Leaf. Don’t miss a special chance to catch him live!
