The Mavericks are preparing to return to the road.
In a message shared with fans, the band confirmed plans to tour again following the loss of frontman Raul Malo, while acknowledging the weight of moving forward without him.
“The immeasurable loss of our leader, friend and irreplaceable brother Raul has been as difficult as you can imagine,” the band wrote. “We know that we can’t replace Raul.. but, we can still, in bold spirit, continue to play this joyous music and celebrate The Mavericks legacy together.”
Malo, whose voice and songwriting defined the band’s sound for decades, died in 2026. In their statement, band members Eddie Perez, Paul Deakin, and Jerry Dale McFadden also expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from fans, friends, and their extended community.
“Your words of love and show of support for the Mavericks and our dear brother Raul over these past couple of years has been nothing short of amazing, heartfelt and much appreciated,” they wrote, noting that Malo and his family were aware of how deeply he was loved.
Looking ahead, the band emphasized healing through music. “We are all wanting to find a way to heal and in the best way we know how to. Music is the medicine.”
The group will be joined on tour by guest vocalists James Otto and Emily West, who previously appeared during tribute performances at Ryman Auditorium.
Drummer Paul Deakin said the pair were “undeniable talents,” adding that their Ryman performances received standing ovations and that “The Mavericks made them our top choice” for the first leg of The Music Lives On Tour.
Guitarist Eddie Perez called their addition “exciting,” while keyboardist Jerry Dale McFadden noted, “James and Emily stole the show both nights.”
West said joining the tour is “with great joy,” calling it an honor to help celebrate Malo’s work, while Otto described feeling “an undeniable musical chemistry” during the Ryman tribute shows, adding that he believes “Raul would want the band and the music he spent a lifetime creating to play on.”
