Michael “Hawkeye” Herman, a devoted blues connoisseur who famously rubbed shoulders with some of the most revered bluesmen and women to have lived, is hosting a “Blues Storytelling” presentation at the Blues City Cafe, located on the corner of Beale and 2nd Street.
Hawkeye is telling stories about the iconic blues figures he has met and had a chance to learn from over the years, including Bukka White, Furry Lewis, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Brownie McGhee, Son House, Sam Chatmon, Jessie Mae Hemphill, Mance Lipscomb, John Jackson, Charles Brown, T-Bone Walker, Big Mama Thornton, and more.
While the ribs at Blues City Cafe are disappointing, to say the least (Silky O’Sullivan’s win the prize in that department,) the stories are rich, interesting, and entertaining.
