In this video, blues master Muddy Waters plays scorching, soul-bending live slide guitar on “Train Fare Blues”. Muddy was one of, if not the greatest slide guitar player to have ever lived. In the 1940s, Muddy boarded a greyhound bus to Chicago, bringing his delta blues with him. A couple of short years later, he’d electrified Chicago, creating a stunning new brand of blues that can still be heard in music across the globe. Over his 70 year lifespan, Muddy Waters’ surprisingly nuanced guitar and vocal mastery changed music forever. Maybe that’s why he landed at number 17 on the Rolling Stone Magazine’s Top 100 Artists of All Time. Of course, that shouldn’t be surprising considering the magazine itself was named for a Muddy Waters song.
