In honor of the King of the Blues‘ birthday, Thursday, September 16th, it’s B.B. King week at the American Blues Scene. Today’s B.B. King video is his live performance, on stage at the B.B. King Blues Club, of the song that brought him to widespread fame in 1952, “Three O’Clock Blues”. Originally penned and performed by Lowell Fulson as a country song, B.B. made it his own, with a full horn section, R&B style, and a band that even included Ike Turner on the piano! King’s version spent five weeks at the top of the R&B charts, and became his first major hit, though a great many would soon follow. Today, B.B. still plays “Three O’Clock Blues” fairly often at his live sets.
