New Orleans-based Father Ron and Friends are making the most of the spring season with performances of music from their Global Music Award-winning Forever The Seasons, appearing at festivals, brewpubs, lawn concerts, and neighborhood porch sets.

Led by Episcopal priest and longtime WWOZ folk DJ Father Ron Clingenpeel, the group has built a following rooted in community-centered performance and traditional folk values. Originally from Nebraska, Clingenpeel has spent years in New Orleans, including serving at the Chapel of the Holy Spirit near Tulane University, while also touring internationally with a focus on folk music’s role in connection and storytelling.

The band’s origins trace back to a tribute to Pete Seeger more than a decade ago, and their approach continues to reflect the influence of artists like Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie. In the past year, Father Ron and Friends have expanded their outreach with children’s singalongs through programs connected to the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana, appearances at events such as a New Orleans MLK service, and an ongoing porch series across the city.

The current lineup includes Robert Eustis (guitar), David Schwartz (keyboards), Barbara Smith-Davis (vocals), and Max Valentino (bass), blending traditional folk with Americana. Their “Great American Singalong” initiative introduces younger audiences to the genre’s roots.

Released in 2024, Forever The Seasons features its title track co-written by Louisiana Red Hot Records CEO Carmen Sunda, along with songs including “The Promised Land,” “Roll River Roll,” and “Don’t Let The Fire Die,” which received a Global Music Award. The album also includes a take on the New Orleans standard “Saint James Infirmary,” alongside a mix of original material.

Guest musicians on the record include Jack Craft (cello) and Gina Forsyth (fiddle), with additional vocal contributions from Debbie Davis and Cole Williams. Produced by Andre Bohren and recorded at studios across New Orleans, the album has also been included in the New Orleans Public Library’s Crescent City Sound collection.

Spring appearances include a set at the French Quarter Festival on April 19, along with additional local performances throughout the season.
