They say you don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone but I’ve seen that work in reverse this week. I didn’t notice Eden Brent’s marvelous Ain’t Got No Troubles disappeared from the charts until seeing it storm into the Top 10 this week. It’s insane such a good record should have vanished for as long as it did and it’s great to see it back where it belongs.
Buddy Guy is tops at radio and retail this week, which isn’t much of a surprise. He’s one of the biggest names in the blues universe and his new record is quite good. It’s not surprising at all he should be doing this well. Harp maestros Charlie Musselwhite and James Cotton are in the Top 5 with Guy, as are Robin Rogers and Kenny Neal. Elsewhere on the chart we see some albums that have been in the charts awhile but had tapered off having a bit of resurgence. Albert Castiglia, Eric Clapton, and Joe Louis Walker are all on the rise this week.
We’ve also got some albums in this week I’ve yet to hear much from or about so I’ve got some homework. Steve Gerard & The National Debonaires, Lucky Peterson, Jay Gaunt, and Chrissie O’Dell are all albums that are new to me. I still haven’t caught up on the pile of records in front of me but I’m going to have to find time for these, especially if they’re going to be around for a while. It’s good to see these new records mingling with some of the albums that have been here awhile. It’s a good time to be a blues fan.
