Blues Enough, from the Hitman Blues Band is a really good time! Out on Nerus Records and clocking in at just under 49 minutes, this album is energetic and spunky. The addition of a horn section on this outing is a huge plus, giving the music depth and warmth. The personnel are Russell “Hitman” Alexander – guitar and vocals, Kevin Rymer – keyboards, Mike Porter – bass and vocals, and Guy LaFountaine on drums. The horn section is: Michael Snyder – saxes, Eric Altarac – trumpet, and Alan Alpert is on trombone. Special guests are Neil Alexander – harp, with Victoria Anyah and Joanna Alexander on backing vocals.

As we said earlier, this album is just so much fun! The opener, “Blues Enough,” grabs you right away with its fast, thumping vibe, and the horn accents are just right. The tribute song, “Sam The Bluesman,” has a great thick and rich textured sound, and some well placed piano accents. “Every Piece Of Me” is an excellent slow South Texas blues. “Life’s Too Short” is Memphis meets Texas good time soul. “Better Class Of Bums” is light and breezy, with a great touch of the south; perfect synchronicity. “Deaf, Dumb, and Blind” is a well played blues with some wonderful horn washes throughout, and a sweet sax solo.

Blues Enough is mixed well, and the sound has lots of depth. Russell “Hitman” Alexander’s guitar playing is emotive, understated  and brilliant throughout. Kevin Rymer stretches out on keys and really adds texture to the music. Mike Porter and Guy LaFountaine do a great job locking down the beat, and providing punch. Want something with a pulse? Blues Enough is it.
