Soon, the city of Memphis, Tennessee will once again come alive with a pilgrimage of blues fans and devotees as they descend upon the city for the 37th annual Blues Music Awards. As one would imagine, there are many events and celebrations scheduled for this festive period. One such event is the “Screamin’ the Blues” exhibit, showcasing the photography of French photographer and blues music lover, Françoise Digel, who has captured her subjects fully possessed by the blues.

The exhibit will be offered in the Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise Gallery, located in the lobby of The Blues Foundation itself. The artist herself will attend the opening reception on Friday, May 6, from 2pm to 4pm. Free and open to the public, the reception kicks off the exhibit, which runs through October 2nd, 2016.

According to the exhibit’s event page on Facebook, “The exhibit will have a dedicated website in English, www.screamintheblues.com which will become active the first day of the exhibit. Visitors can find it by scanning the QR codes with their smartphones (free apps available). Each photograph has a 75-word caption explaining the particular scream depicted on the picture, based on interviews with the musician and/or researches.”

Two other collections will also be presented :

Off the Record, is a collection of smaller photos, attached to old vinyl records. The LPs and 45s are stacked together by theme (hands, jewels, gris-gris, harps, strings, tattoos, etc.). In Memoriam, is in honor of the musicians who have left us much too soon.
