All in all, ‘Sometimes the Blues Got Me’ is a substantial album. No one can ever say Bob Koester doesn’t know his stuff when it comes to blues and jazz. Picking Breezy Rodio for the Delmark label was another genius move.

Today an institution beloved by three generations of fans and having influenced equally as many blues and jazz musicians welcomes new owners.

Although 15 tracks, and over an hour in length, we wondered where the time went, before pushing play again. It’s that good.

‘Lonesome Highway’, is a true celebration of Billy Flynn’s 60th trip around the sun. Many of the songs were shared with Jimmy Dawkins before his tragic passing in 2013. He offered his advice, and Flynn truly honors his mentor with this one. Sure to be a Delmark classic!

Perhaps he might have marveled at how popular he has become since his death. One thing is certain though; he was an innovator who blazed a path for others to follow, and his work has more than stood the test of time.
